Mobiles, wireless telephones and Wi-Fi

Frequencies of 3 MHz or more have high energy levels and low penetrability of materials and tissue. These frequencies are generated by antennae and apparatus for mobile telephones, Wi-Fi, WiMAX, digital wireless telephones, digital television, radars etc. We use this equipment every day but they can have increasingly worrying effects on our health.

The effects that high-frequency technology can cause are shown below.

Short-term effects:

  • Difficulty in falling asleep

  • Cramp in the legs

  • Muscle pains

  • Sleepwalking

  • Occasional anxiety, aggression, hyperactivity or attention deficit

Medium- and long-term effects:

  • Nerve disorders

  • Chronic fatigue

  • Stress and irritability

  • Chronic insomnia

  • Depression

  • Headaches

  • Joint and muscle pain

  • Chronic degenerative diseases

  • Autoimmune diseases (cancer and leukaemia)

Many scientists have devoted themselves to determining the true effects of radiofrequencies especially concerning mobile phones: effects on cerebral activity, development of cerebral tumours, change in cardiac rhythm, infertility etc.

The current legislation on this topic only focuses on the thermal effects on tissue. Although the non-thermal effects of high-frequency radiation have been shown, the biological implications that take place have not been. Therefore authorities are not taking these non-thermal effects into account.

This has led to extremely lenient legislation around the world aside from a very small minority of countries. Sweden, for example, take serious precautions before exposing the population to a danger whose long-term effects are still not clear. There, electromagnetic hypersensitivity is recognised as a disease and state aid is used to help lower electromagnetic levels in homes. Austria, Italy and Russia are also improving their regulations on this with much stricter maximum limits than in Spain, the rest of the EU and USA.
